MAGVA is the classical coordinator for the Concert Across America to End Gun Violence, taking place across the United States on Sunday, September 25, 2016.
On Sunday, September 25, 2016, we will remember the victims of America’s gun violence epidemic with
The Concert Across America,
a series of live events from coast to coast.
WHY MOBILIZE WITH MUSIC?
The power of music to reach far and wide has fueled countless important movements in recent decades. Now is the time to turn up the music to turn down the hateful rhetoric that has become a hallmark of the gun debate.
WHY ON SEPTEMBER 25TH?
In 2007, Congress designated September 25 as the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. And while two out of every three victims are killed with a firearm, the day of “remembrance” is the only thing Congress has done to acknowledge this loss.
And while we need to be respectful of what this day stands for, we must also demand that Congress mandates a background check for every gun sale, too.
WHY “ACROSS” THE COUNTRY?
We are one nation and together, we must pull together to protect our loved ones, and each other. Tragically, nine children will die today – and each day – from gunfire here in the U.S.
WHERE WILL THE CONCERTS BE?
Wherever you will be.
Got a guitar and a mic? Sing outside your Congressman’s local office. Need more of an audience? Invite camera crews and news reporters – they’re getting shot at too.
Belong to a church? Let the choir do the preaching.
Cantors. Call me. Maybe? No seriously. Call us. We need all of our faith-based friends to join us in remembering those murdered in their places of worship — from the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin to the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC.
Have access to a venue, performers, local promoters and want to organize it yourself? Hallelujah. Just let us know where (we have a few concerts already popping up here and there).
WILL THE CONCERTS CONNECT?
Yep. The #ConcertAcrossAmerica to #EndGunViolence will connect through social media. More details later how to #RememberSept25 as a day to honor victims, including but not limited to: #UT1966, #Stockton, #Jonesboro, #Paducah, #Columbine, #VirginiaTech, #Hokies, #NorthernIllinois, #Huskies, #Binghampton, #Tucson, #Aurora, #Clackamas, #OakCreek, #Newtown, #UCSB, #Roanoke, #Oregon, #ColoradoSprings, #SanBernadino, #Orlando,just to name a few.
WHO’S THE BACKUP BAND BEHIND THIS EFFORT?
We’re a national network of organizations, activists and artists in complete harmony over the need to keep guns out of dangerous hands. (To donate to the national effort, click here.)
WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
We need “concert coordinators” and performers in every congressional district (yep, all 435 of them.) Sign up here. Or, email: RememberSept25 at gmail dot com.
